Another idea for a great place to donate extra fruit this season.
Alpha House is a second stage housing program (commonly known as shelter) for women to come, with their children, upon leaving a violent relationship. It is a residential, independent living program, where women and children can access individual and group counselling, as well as educational resources.
Most of the women at Alpha House have left almost all of their personal belongings and are now living on a very tight budget. Fresh fruit often becomes a luxury item. These women would be truly grateful to receive some of the delicious fresh fruit that Manitoba has to offer.
Donated fruit would be used eaten fresh and used to prepare meals for residents.
Due to safety reasons, the location of our building cannot be disclosed. To make the donation process as easy as possible, Alpha House staff could either pick up fruit or meet volunteers in an alternate location to accept donations.

Rhubarb, Sour cherries (eg. nanking or evans cherries), Crab apples, Big eating/baking apples, Grapes, Berries (eg. strawberries or raspberries), Apricots or Plums
Other Food Items
Canned Fruit Preserves (eg. jam, jelly, sauce, juice, etc.), Frozen Fruit, Home baked products (eg. fruit crisp, pies, breads, etc.). Dates and labels would be nice. Also, garden vegetables would be much appreciated.
Gently used women’s and children’s clothing, new toiletries, toys, games and household items in good condition.
Office hours at Alpha House are Monday-Friday, from 9-4. However, staff would be willing to meet volunteer pickers to arrange pick-up outside of these times.
